Mirrored Acrylic Sheets

Buying Mirrored Acrylic at Canal Plastics Center

Every mirrored sheet we stock is manufactured through a vacuum metallizing process that deposits a thin layer of aluminum onto one side of the acrylic, creating a bright and durable mirror finish. The reflective surface is then coated with a painted backing to protect it during fabrication and use. All mirrored sheets are extruded acrylic for consistent reflectivity and dimensional stability.

Our in-house fabrication team laser cuts, routes, drills, and polishes mirrored acrylic daily, so a single order can go from full sheet to finished mirror parts without leaving our SoHo workshop.

Fabrication Notes

For straight cuts on sheets up to 1/8" thick, scribing and snapping over a table edge is effective. For precise work, use carbide-tipped circular or table saw blades with a triple-chip design. Keep the masked side down during cutting and maintain a steady feed rate to prevent chipping. A cool air or water mist can be applied to the blade; avoid lubricants, which may react with the mirror backing. Water jet cutting is not recommended as it can leave micro-notches that lead to cracking or edge failure.

For laser cutting, maintain proper focal distance and leave masking on one or both sides to absorb laser energy evenly. Always exhaust fumes properly and test parameters before production.

Adhesive Note

Do not use solvent-based acrylic cements on the mirror backing. Solvents will damage the reflective film. Use silicone adhesive only. Test on expendable pieces at least 72 hours before full application to confirm compatibility.

FAQs

Is acrylic mirror as good as glass mirror?

Acrylic mirror gives the same bright reflection as glass at up to 50% less weight and 10 times the impact resistance, and it can be laser cut, drilled, and routed without shattering. Glass holds an edge in absolute optical flatness for large, perfectly flat installations. For retail displays, sets, events, signage, and most architectural work, acrylic mirror is the safer and easier material.

Can you cut acrylic mirror to size?

Yes. Every mirrored sheet can be ordered in standard pre-cut sizes or custom cut to your exact dimensions with a tolerance of +/- 1/32". Most cut-to-size orders ship within 1 to 2 business days. For shapes, holes, and engraving, we also offer laser cutting and CNC routing.

Do you sell acrylic mirror in 4x8 full sheets?

Yes. Full sheets are 48" x 96" (4 feet by 8 feet) and are available for pickup at our 345 Canal Street store in Manhattan, or we can arrange LTL freight delivery for full-sheet orders. Smaller pieces and cut-to-size orders ship nationwide via UPS Ground.

Do you sell two-way (see-through) mirror acrylic?

Yes. Our See-Thru / Two-Way Mirror acrylic reflects from the brighter side and transmits from the darker side, making it ideal for observation windows, photography, privacy partitions, and infinity mirrors. We also stock double-sided mirror with a reflective finish on both faces.

What thicknesses and colors of acrylic mirror do you stock?

Silver mirror is stocked in 1/16", 1/8", and 1/4" thicknesses. Colored mirror (including gold and our full range of tints), two-way, and double-sided mirror are stocked in 1/8". All mirrored acrylic is rated for indoor use.

How do I mount or glue acrylic mirror?

Mount acrylic mirror to a flat, rigid surface; an uneven backing will distort the reflection. Never use solvent-based acrylic cements on the mirror backing, as solvents damage the reflective film. Use silicone adhesive only, and test on an expendable piece at least 72 hours before full application.
